Today is the one week anniversary of purchasing my Outback, and I have already managed to turn 1,000 miles. The odo turned over in the parking lot of the Honda Manufacturing Plant in Lincoln Alabama. I ended up having a great tour of the production line where the Odyssey and Pilot are made. I was was also able to tour the Hyundai plant in Montgomery Alabama where my old Elantra was built. Overall this has been an awesome trip, and a great bonding experience with my new car.

Yay depreciation! ;)

I know the feeling of driving a Subaru. I've had my Crosstrek since April of 13 and have almost 27k on it. I haven't gone (far) offroad in mine, but everywhere I've taken it it's been happy to oblige.

I'm not going to let the depreciation worry me, as I intend to keep this thing for the long run. I really am enjoying the solid feel that the car has while driving down the highway, which I never truly felt while driving my old little Hyundais and Kias. Anyways, how have you been enjoying your XV?

I know a lot of people that work at the Lincoln plant. What were you doing there?

I love my XV, my wife HATES it. Mostly because I purchased it in Tangerine Orange Pearl.

With snow tires on, it is virtually unstoppable. The only issue I had was fixed under warranty, and that was due to a faulty module in the fuel system, which apparently there was a TSB about. I get decent gas mileage for a CUV I think, roughly 30mpg in mixed driving. If I had to nitpick, I only wish it had a little more powerful engine. An XV with the Forester XT engine would be perfect.

I just went there for the plant tour. Before I had issues with my Hyundai Elantra, I made tour plans at the hyundai plant, and when I learned that a Honda plant was only 1.5 hours from the Hyundai plant, I figured why not.

I'll have to see how my Outback performs with the all seasons, but I am sure they will be completely sufficient for the NC winters. I've been averaging about 28 mpg which I consider to be pretty good for such a massive car. Also the orange Crosstrek is the best looking one, so in my opinion your wife is totally wrong.

You should try for the Mercedes plant too while you're there. It's about 45 minutes from the Honda plant. Go for the trifecta!

I was planning to, but their visitors center will not be open until later this year due to renovations.

I'll put about 550 more miles on it tomorrow when I drive home, and then will slow down quite a bit.

I used to work for the stamping plant that makes the body for them. Remember this? I had a small hand in finishing up the body. It was one of the first things MB did to promote their (then)new American made SUVs.

Congrats! Are you going to do the 'oil change at 1,000 miles to flush out pieces of metal, twigs, and loose change?' My dad did that, so I could not help myself: '87 300D, '91 CRX Si, '97 SHO all changed to synthetic oil at 1,000 miles. Still, 100K on the Mercedes and SHO, and no problems related to oil.

I have to ask... How do you get access to these plants? I'd love to go see where My Civic was made but have no clue how!

just go on the plants websites and request a tour. From the looks of things, the Honda Indiana plant has currently suspended tours.

I know that you are not going to like hearing this, but I think I am just going to get it done at 6,500 like the manual recommends.

Not at all ... I have my weird little habits and can hardly blame others for not having them. I am risk-averse and totally aware that what I did with those cars was overkill. But small comforts.

I might end up taking it in at 3,000 miles, which is what I did with my 2014 Elantra.

I really like it a lot. It is leagues ahead of my old 2014 Elantra. The ride is insanely smooth, acceleration is modest, gas milage is far better than expected, the technology is intuitive and easy to use, and I really like how it looks.

I drove my friend's outback for the first time on Saturday night! Hers is blue, and has quite a few options! I did find the acceleration to be slightly lacking though...

Granted, I'm comparing a 170hp CVT 3800lb Subaru wagon to a 200hp 6M/T 3300 warm sedan

Acceleration isn't the car's strong suit, but it is enough to get the job done. I'm sure that the 3.6 has plenty of power. Also, which trim level Outback does your friend have?

You should've found who put together your old Elantra and gave him a wedgie.

Honestly, after touring the factory, I am really surprised that I had issues. The workers seemed really into what they were doing, and everything seemed really top notch. From what the tour guide told me, apparently all of the transmissions are made at the West Point Ga Kia Plant and all of the engines are made in house (I even got to see them make and test the engines), so maybe my car's issues are Kia's fault. Unfortunately, Kia doesn't offer tours in their plant, so I guess I won't be able to give anyone a wedgie.

(I swear I wasn't brainwashed by the Hyundai corporation.)
